About Joyce McAdams

As a child, Joyce says she, "had wondrous dreams of flying fish with iridescent wings gleaming in the moonlight". Today Joyce recreates her childhood dreams in a charming world "...where green goldfish glide and dragonflies drift over double moons" in her Edgewater, Florida home.
I want my work to be like a good poem. It should be something a visitor can return to repeatedly, finding fresh ideas & meanings each time. The way I work is by layering images over images until surprising new meanings begin to surface. Meanings that are suggestions to the viewer's own psyche, a magical place where the work and the viewer engage.
The "jewel like" quality her work is known for is the result of her intricately detailed combination of painting and collage-like imagery. From these unique paintings she also creates tile murals and installations, fabrics, one of a kind clothing, scarves, ceramic tile murals and fine giclee prints.
Joyce has been a working and exhibiting artist for over 35 years. She was born in Massachusetts and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of New Hampshire. She has participated in over 60 solo and group exhibits in museums and galleries across the country. She regularly gives workshops and exhibits in fairs and festivals abound the South and East Coast.
She works out of her home studio in Edgewater, Florida with a cat, her artist/educator husband, a Jack Russell and an English Bull Terrier, three birds and koi in the pond.
